The ordinary terms for reading and using this site, and the one that matters most: our licence to publish an image is not a licence for you to reuse it.
Using the site
The Strange File is published for general interest. Read it, link to it, quote it with attribution. Do not scrape it wholesale, republish files in full, or use its contents to train a model that reproduces them.
Our writing
The text of the files — the research, the analysis, the verdicts, and the writing around them — is our copyright. Short quotations with a link back are welcome and need no permission. Reproducing a full file requires asking first.
The photographs — read this part
Our right to publish an image does not transfer to you. Every image here is used under a specific licence, a public-domain determination, or direct permission, and each file records the rights holder, the licence, and the page that states it. Some of those licences are ours alone.
If you want to use a photograph you found here, take the credit and licence details from the file and clear it with the original holder. Copying an image from this site because it was convenient is exactly the failure this publication exists to argue against.
Rights holders: if you believe an image is used outside its licence, write to thestrangefile@gmail.com with the file number. We will send you the licence record we hold, and if it is wrong the image comes down while it is resolved.
Accuracy, and its limits
Every file is verified against the standard on the method page and published in good faith. That is a real commitment and it is enforced by the site’s build — but it is not a warranty. Evidence changes, records surface, and we make mistakes.
Where we are wrong we correct it in place, dated, in the publiccorrections ledger. Nothing here is professional, legal, medical, or financial advice, and a verdict is our assessment of the available evidence at the date shown on the file — not a statement of law or a final determination of fact.

Files link to sources so you can check our work. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their contents, availability, or policies. Where a source has been archived, the snapshot link is provided alongside the original.
Commercial links
Some files may carry affiliate links. These are disclosed before the link, and the full arrangement is on the disclosures page. Any purchase you make is between you and that retailer.

This site is provided as-is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from use of, or reliance on, anything published here.
